A senior NCO, probably a Sergeant of the 2nd (or the Queen's Royal) Regiment of Foot, 1806 (c)
Oil on canvas by unknown artist 1806 (c).
Behind the non-commissioned officer a sutleress in red cloak is visible in the background. Soldiers are drinking inside a tent with hanging flaps and children are playing the fife and drum. Even if women were not engaged in supplying the Army, they would have been found in almost every military camp. Many worked as washerwoman, some as prostitutes and others were the wives of members of the regiment.
