'A View of the Contended Position at Toulouse, April 10th 1814'

Thomas McNiven was a lieutenant in the 42nd Regiment when he was severely wounded during the Battle of Toulouse, while carrying the regimental colours. He was awarded a pension of £70 but recovered and saw service in Gibraltar, Malta, Corfu and Syria. When Lieutenant Colonel McNiven died in 1870, the officers and 42nd Regiment erected an obelisk in his memory in St Michael's Churchyard, Inveresk, Scotland.
