Frock, tartan, corporal, issued to 2nd Battalion, Grenadier Guards, 1900 (c)
Manufactured by Royal Army Clothing Department, Pimlico, 1900 (c).
The British Army still continued to wear scarlet at home and abroad until 1914. This frock is described in the 1894 Clothing Regulations and were designed for wear abroad in Egypt by Guards Regiments. It was a looser fitting garment, fastened with only five buttons. It also has two large guards style chevrons (lance corporal in the Guards). Two guards style good conduct chevrons are sewn onto the lower left sleeve. An ink stamp inside indicates this was issued to the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards.
