Soldiers of the Hong Kong Regiment, 1900 (c)
Photograph, 3rd China War (Boxer Rebellion), 1900 (c).
The regiment was raised at Jhelum in India in November 1891 for Hong Kong service. It was the first Indian regiment raised for overseas service, but was eventually disbanded in 1909, the experiment having been seen as a failure as it damaged recruitment for the Indian Army.
From a collection of photographs associated with the 3rd China War (1900-1901).
