Major-General Sir Robert Napier (1810-1890) (seated) confers with his ADC, Major E.H. Greathead. During the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859) both men served with Sir Henry Havelock and Sir James Outram at the Relief of Lucknow and then took part in the mopping-up operations in Oudh and Gwalior in 1858. Napier later served as Commander-in-Chief in India between 1870 and 1876.
