Pouch used by Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Master, 7th Bengal Light Cavalry, 1856 (c)
On 31 May 1857, two thirds of Master's troopers mutinied at Mudkipur cavalry lines, situated a few kilometres from the Lucknow Residency. They deserted to the rebels after a prearranged signal. Loyal native infantry, commanded by Sir Henry Lawrence, the Chief Commissioner of Oudh, eventually dispersed them.
