Army Staff cocked hat worn by Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, 1846 (c)

Wellington wore a similar hat at the Battle of Waterloo (1815). He waved it to signal a general advance following the final defeat of the Imperial Guard.
