Glengarry badge, other ranks, 48th (Northamptonshire) Regiment of Foot, 1874-1881

Raised in 1741, the 48th (Northamptonshire) Regiment fought in the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748), the Jacobite Rebellion in 1745, and the French and Indian War in North America (1744-1755). The Regiment fought in the Peninsular War (1808-1814) and went on to serve in India and the Crimean War (1854-1856), In 1881 the 48th amalgamated with the 58th (Rutlandshire) Regiment to form the Northamptonshire Regiment.
