Glengarry badge, other ranks, 51st (2nd Yorkshire West Riding) or The King's Own Light Infantry, 1874-1881

The 53rd Regiment of Foot was renumbered in 1755, becoming the 51st Foot. It received a county designation in 1782, as the 51st (2nd Yorkshire, West Riding) Regiment of Foot. In 1821 the regiment received royal status, becoming the 51st (2nd Yorkshire, West Riding, The King's Own Light Infantry) Regiment. The British Army reforms of 1881 saw the regiment become the 1st Battalion of the King's Own Light Infantry (South Yorkshire Regiment).
