Glengarry badge, other ranks, 61st (South Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot, 1874-1881

Brass badge with the regimental numeral, '61', surmounted by a sphinx with the battle honour, 'Egypt', surrounded by a garter emblazoned with the regimental title, 'South Gloucestershire'. The garter is surmounted by crown.

The 61st (South Gloucestershire) Regiment was raised in 1756. This badge dates to just before the regiment was amalgamated with the 28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment, to form The Gloucestershire Regiment in 1881.
