Glengarry badge, other ranks, 72nd (Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders) Regiment of Foot, 1874-1881
This unit's badge includes the Duke of Albany's title and coronet above a chequer patterned ball and the numeral 72. These are flanked by Scottish thistles. The regiment was formed in 1778 as the 78th (Highland) Foot at Elgin and served with the British Army until the 1881 reforms when it was amalgamated into The Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs, The Duke of Albany's).
