Glengarry badge, other ranks', 81st (Royal Lincoln Volunteers) Regiment of Foot, 1874-1881
Brass badge in the form of the regimental number, '81', within a garter bearing the title, 'Royal Lincoln Volunteers', surmounted by a crown.
Originally raised as the Loyal Lincoln Volunteers in 1793, this regiment became the 81st Foot a year later and reincorporated the title 'Loyal' Lincoln Volunteers in 1833. Under the Childers Reforms of 1881, it amalgamated with the 47th (Lancashire) Regiment, forming The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, of which the 81st became the 1st Battalion.
