Glengarry badge, other ranks, 82nd Regiment of Foot (Prince of Wales's Volunteers), 1874-1881

Brass badge with regimental number within a garter bearing the regimental title, 'Prince of Wales's Volunteers', surmounted by a crest with the Prince of Wales' feathers, coronet and a scroll bearing the motto, 'Ich Dien'.

The 82nd Regiment of Foot was raised in 1793. In 1802 it absorbed the Prince of Wales's Volunteers. This badge is of the period just prior to the amalgamation of the Regiment with the 40th (2nd Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot, which formed the Prince of Wales's Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment).
