Glengarry badge, other ranks', 92nd (Gordon Highlanders) Regiment of Foot, 1874-1881

The glengarry badge of the 92nd consisted of a wreath of thistles, the national emblem of Scotland, surrounding a sphinx labelled with the honour 'Egypt and the numeral 92. The regiment was awarded the sphinx in recognition of its service in Egypt under General Sir Ralph Abercromby in 1801.
