Entering the Dakka Plain, 1919

Dakka plain was situated in Afghan territory to the west of the Khyber Pass. It was occupied on 13 May 1919 by a mixed force of British-Indian cavalry, infantry and mountain artillery. This was after the Afghans retreated following sustained attacks by the Royal Air Force.
