Lord Rowland Hill (1772-1842), 1st Viscount Hill of Almaraz GCB, GCH, was one of the Duke of Wellington's most trusted commanders and led the 2nd Division with great distinction in Spain and Portugal during the Peninsular War (1808-1814). At Waterloo (1815) Hill commanded the 2nd Corps of the Allied Army. He had a reputation for taking care of his men and was a popular officer. Hill became Commander-in-Chief of the British Army in 1828.
