Cap badge, other ranks, Army Cyclist Corps, 1914-1918
Metal badge in the form of a bicycle wheel with sixteen spokes superimposed upon crossed rifles, of which only the butts and muzzles are visible, surmounted by a monarchial crown; a frosted scroll bearing the burnished unit title, 'Army Cyclist Corps'. The slider fitting on the reverse has been removed.
The Army Cyclist Corps was formed in 1914 from divisional cyclist companies (and later battalions) of the regular Army. Its role was to provide reconnaissance and communications, as well as acting as mobile infantry.
