Shabraque, George William Frederick Charles, 2nd Duke of Cambridge, 1856 (c)

Presented to HRH General George William Frederick Charles, 2nd Duke of Cambridge by Abdul Mejid, Sultan of Turkey following the Crimean War (1854-1856) to express his appreciation of the Duke's services.

Crimson cloth with oilcloth backing. Long pointed 'V' shaped tails with an angular pointed front flaps. Edge is bound with gold lace flanked with thick wire embroidery and embroidered leaves and flowers and the centre is embroidered with a double crossing pair of wavy lines. There is a slit at the top for the saddle and chaffing pads of red leather on the bottom.
