Dragon's Well
From 'Famous Views in Wu-Lin' Vol 2, a sketchbook of pen, ink and watercolour drawings attributed to Dong Gao (1740-1818), 1780-1800 (c).
Dong Gao was a famous Qing Dynasty court artist particularly known for his landscapes. This sketchbook of his work was taken by a British soldier from the Summer Palace in Beijing after its capture during the Second China War (1856-1860) in 1860. The palace was looted by the French and British and then burnt.
