Sultan's Gold Medal for Egypt, awarded to Lieutenant-General Sir John Moore, 1801
Moore's division bore the brunt of the French attack at the Battle of Alexandria on 21 March 1801. He was one of 500 British Navy and Army personnel who received this medal from the Ottoman Sultan in recognition of services rendered during the Egyptian campaign.
