Officers' helmet, Royal Jersey Militia Rifle Company, 1854 (c)

Auxiliary units were not obliged to follow the patterns of headdress laid down for the regular Army. This helmet is a fine example which owes more to the 87th Foot trial pattern helmet than the regular Infantry 1844-1855 Pattern shako.
