Lace and fringe sample, drummer, 17th (The Leicestershire) Regiment of Foot, sealed pattern, 1860
Yellow worsted lace bearing a white and blue foliate design. 1.75 inch long alternate white, yellow and black worsted fringe.
A 'sealed pattern' is a prototype of any item that the British Army issued to soldiers. It provided clothing or equipment suppliers with an example to copy.
The 17th (The Leicestershire) Regiment of Foot was raised in 1688, becoming the 17th Regiment of Foot in 1751. It was designated a county regiment under the Childers Reforms of 1881 and renamed The Leicestershire Regiment. It was granted royal status in 1946, becoming the Royal Leicestershire Regiment. In 1964 it became part of the Royal Anglian Regiment with B Company of the 2nd Battalion continuing the lineage.
