Lace and fringe sample, drummer, 92nd Regiment of Foot, sealed pattern, 1860
White worsted lace 5/8 inches in width, bearing a yellow and blue chevron design. 1.75 inch long fringe of twisted worsted of alternate blue, yellow and white.
A 'sealed pattern' is a prototype of any item that the British Army issued to soldiers. It provided clothing or equipment suppliers with an example to copy.
The regiment was raised as the 100th (Gordon Highlanders) Regiment of Foot in 1794, but was re-ranked as the 92nd (Highland) Regiment of Foot in 1798. It was renamed the 92nd Regiment of Foot in 1809 before recovering its original designation in 1861, becoming the 92nd (Gordon Highlanders) Regiment of Foot. Under the Army's Childers Reforms of 1881, the regiment amalgamated with the 75th (Stirlingshire) Regiment of Foot to form the Gordon Highlanders. In 1994 it amalgamated with the Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons) forming the Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons).
