Gewehr Model 43 7.92 mm self-loading rifle, 1943 (c)
This entered German Army service in April 1944. It was part of Nazi Germany's attempt to replace its infantry soldiers' bolt action rifles with semi-automatics, which gave a higher rate of fire. It had an effective range of around 500 metres and was fed by 10-round detachable box magazines. Production of the Gewehr 43, or Karabiner 43, amounted to 400,000 between 1943 and 1945.
