Boer prisoners captured in Natal, 1900 (c)
Lantern slide, Boer War (1899-1902), 1900 (c).
The British had made no provision for dealing with prisoners in South Africa so 25,630 out of the 28,000 Boer men captured during the conflict were sent overseas. Around 5,000 were sent to the British island of St Helena in the South Atlantic.
From a collection of 243 lantern slides, mainly illustrations from 'The Illustrated London News' and 'The Sphere', 1899-1902.
