The 5th Battalion, raised by Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Jourdain (centre) in Galway on 19 August 1914, landed at Gallipoli on 5 August 1915. It remained in the Dardanelles until the end of September when it was withdrawn prior to transfer to the Macedonian front.
