Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Jourdain, 5th Battalion The Connaught Rangers, 1915

Following the outbreak of war, Jourdain (right) raised the 5th (Service) Battalion on 19 August 1914 at the regimental depot in Galway, Ireland. After a period of training in England his battalion went on to serve at Gallipoli and Salonika with 10th (Irish Division) before transferring to the Western Front in 1917.
