Mug commemorating British leaders and successes of the Boer War, 1902 (c)

Glazed earthenware, made by Joseph Bourne and Son Ltd, Denby, Derbyshire.

This Boer War (1899-1902) mug is a typical example of the mass produced goods, celebrating Queen and Empire, that were produced in the late Victorian era. It is decorated with portraits of Generals Roberts, Buller and Baden-Powell, and is inscribed 'RELIEF OF LADYSMITH, 28 FEBRUARY 1900 PRETORIA JUNE 5TH 1900 THE RELIEF OF MAFEKING MAY 17TH 1900'.
