Colonel Sir Richard Llewellyn, 28th Regiment of Foot, 1835 (c)
Oil on canvas by unknown artist 1835 (c).
The painting is a copy of the portrait study (National Portrait Gallery) by William Salter for his large composition, 'The Waterloo Banquet at Apsley House, 1836' (Apsley House). The banquet was an annual event held by the Duke of Wellington at his London home, to which he invited all the field officers who had served with him at the Battle of Waterloo (1815). Salter painted many portrait studies from life in preparation for the final work, and they were all acknowledged as good likenesses of the individuals.
