Trumpet, 1890
A battlefield is very noisy so trumpets and bugles were used to signal commands such as 'charge', or 'retreat'. This example is said to have been used by the Royal Horse Artillery to sound the retreat at the Battle of Modder River (Boer War 1899-1902) in 1899.
