The sketch represents a firing line of American Revolutionary Militia at the Battle of Lexington, the first engagement between British and American troops in the American War of Independence (1775-1783).
Wollen's oil painting of the Battle of Lexington is part of the National Army Museum's collection (NAM. 1959-11-302).
