1st Lieutenant George Casement, [Bengal] Corps of Engineers, 1829 (c)

Oil on canvas, artist unknown, 1829 (c).

A member of the County Antrim family, Casement (1811-1830) had a very short career, arriving in India in December 1828, but returning on sick leave in January 1830 to London, where he died.

Casement was baptised on 17 January 1811 at Larne in County Antrim, Ireland. He attended the East India Company Military Seminary at Addiscombe in Surrey from 1825 to 1827.

The coatee in this portrait, or one similar to it, is one of a number of uniform items worn by Casement that are now in the National Army Museum Collection.
