7.62 mm L4A1 Bren light machine gun, 1957 (c)
The Bren gun was a proven light machine gun, widely used by the British Army during the Second World War (1939-1945). During the 1950s the wartime Bren gun was updated to accommodate 7.62 mm NATO rifle cartridges. The most noticeable difference to previous models was its straight magazine. The modified Bren gun was given the designation L4, it remained in British Army service until the 1990s.
