Converted Mk 1 .303 inch Maxim machine gun, 1900

This gun was converted from a Mk 1 .45 inch Maxim and is fitted with a Mk4 mount and Mk4 L tripod. It was used by the City Imperial Volunteers in the Boer War (1899-1902) and on the disbandment of the latter was handed over by Sir Alfred J Newton, Lord Major of London, to the Secretary of State for War on behalf of the Corporation of the City of London.
