Shako plate, 30th (or the Cambridgeshire) Regiment of Foot, 1812-1816
Gilt metal plate of irregular shape, frosted with gilt burnished edges, bearing, below the cypher 'GR', the regimental number, '30'; the whole surmounted by a monarchial crown.
Raised in 1689, this infantry regiment served in many campaigns until the 1881 Army reforms when it was merged into the East Lancashire Regiment. This pattern plate was introduced for wear with the 1812 pattern shako and was relatively short-lived, being replaced from 1816 with a new design.
