1796 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Officer's undress sword, 1805 (c)
This sword belonged to Captain Henry Hutton of the 4th (or Royal Irish) Regiment of Dragoon Guards who served with the regiment between 1805 and 1812.
This pattern was the service sword of heavy cavalry officers. It had the same blade as the Trooper's Sword but many officers had their swords manufactured with gilt and blued blades etched with fine decoration. The guard was distinctive, a half-basket hilt of the 'ladder' pattern.
