Other ranks' cap badge, 34th (Cumberland) Regiment of Foot, 1876 (c)
Originally raised in 1702, the 34th was granted a laurel wreath on its colours and badge for covering the retreat of the British force during the defeat at Fontenoy in 1745. The regiment was nicknamed 'The Cattle Reeves' after the 'Reivers' or cattle thieves of the England-Scotland border.
