Glengarry badge, other ranks, 56th (West Essex), 1876 (c)

This brass badge consists of a a garter bearing the motto: 'Montis Insignia Calpe' (Badge of the Rock) surrounding the numeral 56. Superimposed upon the base of the garter is a shield charged with three scimitars and bearing the title West Essex. The design is surmounted by a representation of Gibraltar castle with its key.
