Subadar Major Judbhir Thapa, 2nd (Prince of Wales's Own) Gurkha (Rifle) (The Sirmoor Rifles), 1893

Oil on canvas by Gertrude Ellen Burrard (later Lady Gertrude) (1860-1928), 1893.

This is one of two paintings of the same sitter by Gertrude Burrard in the NAM Collection. Burrard's husband, Sidney, enjoyed a successful career in the Indian Army, becoming Surveyor-General of India in 1910, a post which he held until he retired in 1919.
