Sergeant, 92nd Highlanders, 1816 (c)
Oil on canvas by unknown artist 1816 (c).
This sergeant of the 92nd Regiment of Foot wears a red jacket with yellow facings, silver lace and red and yellow sash. In 1815 the 92nd had fought at Quatre Bras and Waterloo with Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Picton's division. This veteran wears his Waterloo Medal which was awarded to all those who served at Waterloo, Ligny and Quatre Bras. Portraits of non-commissioned officers from this period are rare, and sadly nothing is known of the sergeant.
