Admiral of the Fleet Sir George Rose Sartorius (1790-1885) with his three sons. On the far left, George Conrad (1840-1912); second from right, Reginald William (1841-1907); far right, Euston Henry (1844-1925). Two of the boys would go on to win Victoria Crosses for gallantry. Major (later Major-General) Reginald William Sartorius won his VC in the 2nd Ashanti War (1873-1874) and Captain (later Major-General) Euston Henry, 59th (2nd Nottinghamshire) Regiment of Foot, won his in the 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880).
