4th Dragoon Guards in Egypt, 1882

This painting shows the 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards advancing under fire during the campaign against the forces of Arabi Pasha in Egypt in 1882. The 4th Dragoon Guards were part of the 1st (Heavy) Cavalry Brigade under the command of Brigadier-General Sir Baker Russel. Their role in the campaign culminated in the Battle of Tel El Kebir on 13 September 1882 when Arabi Pasha's troops were routed.
