Fort Yola, Nigeria, 1902 (c)
Photograph, West Africa, 1902 (c).
A sentry of the Northern Nigerian Regiment stands next to an artillery piece in the centre of the parade ground at Yola. The gun is probably the 'time gun', fired to mark midday. Yola is a town near the border between Nigeria and Cameroon (then the German colony of Kamerun), and was taken over by the British in late 1901.
From an album of 145 photographs associated with the Nigeria Regiment and West Africa, 1901-1902.
