'HMS Crocodile' passing through the Suez Canal, 1884 (c)

Launched in 1867, 'HMS Crocodile' was built for the transport of troops between Britain and the Indian sub-continent. She carried up to 1,200 troops and married families and usually completed the voyage in around 70 days.

From an album of 34 photographs compiled by Lt Nathaniel Walter Barnardiston, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment), 1884 (c)-1885.
