Army Gold Medal for Nive awarded to Major-General Thomas Staunton St Clair, 1814
The Army Gold Medal was a campaign medal which could only be awarded to officers. The Battle of the Nive (9-12 December 1813) was fought towards the end of the Peninsular War (1808-1814). Wellington's Anglo-Portuguese and Spanish army defeated Marshal Soult's French army near the city of Bayonne in south-western France.
