New recruits to the Sikh Regiment undergo physical instruction. After the partition of the subcontinent into the states of India and Pakistan in 1947 the Sikh Regiment was allocated to India. Three new battalions of the regiment were raised to accommodate the Sikhs who had transferred from Indian Army units that were allocated to Pakistan.
