Cap badge, other ranks, The Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), 1898 (c)

Die-struck, gilt metal badge in the form of a flaming grenade. On the ball of the grenade is a rose encircled by a crown and garter bearing the motto, 'Honi soit qui mal y pense' (Shame on him who thinks evil of it).

The grenade was common to all British fusilier regiments, but the 'The Rose within the Garter and crown over it' was granted to this unit alone in 1751.
