Shoulder belt plate, 18th (Royal Irish) Regiment of Foot, 1800 (c)
The plate bears the inscription 'Virtutis Namurcensis Praemium' which was conferred on the regiment by King William III for bravery at the Siege of Namur in 1695, during the Nine Years War (1689-1697). The Harp and Crown were also said to have given by King William III.
This officer's shoulder belt plate was used to secure a leather shoulder belt which would carry a sword.
