A View of the storming and taking of Cuidad Rodrigo in Spain, 1812

Sir Arthur Wellesley's army took Ciudad Rodrigo, a fortified town on the main road from Portugal to Salamanca, by storm on the night of 19 January 1812. This engraving's inscription states:
'the Forts and Batteries of this Place was Stormed and Taken on the evening of Jany 19 1812 after dark and the town and its defences were in half an hour in the possession of the Victorious British and Allied Troops Commanded by Marshal Wellington When 153 pieces of Ordnance and a great quantity of Ammunition and stores fell into their hands and the Governor General Banier and 78 Officers and 1700'.
