North East View of Fort Louis in the Island of Martinique, 1794

During the Wars of the French Revolution (1793-1802), General Sir Charles Grey's army took Fort Louis by storm on 20 March 1794. The British were assisted by several French planters who objected to the new French Republic's abolition of slavery.
